Trailwalker event by Oxfam Japan sponsored by GaijinPot.com 2008-05-30
TOKYO — GaijinPot.com sponsored Trailwalker 2008, organized by international humanitarian NGO Oxfam Japan, from May 16 to 18 in Kanagawa and Yamanashi Prefectures. According to Oxfam, 200 teams of 793 participants walked for 100km from Odawara City in Kanagawa to Lake Yamanaka in Yamanashi over two days. About 44 million yen were raised by the charity event so far. Oxfam will be accepting donations until June 30.
GaijinPot.com sponsored the event in several areas. It assisted Oxfam to recruit native English-speaking volunteer staff for its translation and proofreading tasks for the event as well as assistants throughout the charity walk.
Hirohisa Ishihara, event manager of Oxfam Japan, says, “Posting ads for volunteer staff positions on the GaijinPot.com website, we immediately received applications from its users within a day. We received more than 100 applications for the positions in the first week. Thanks to GaijinPot.com, we could recruit helpful English-speaking staff for the event.”
“Award Night,” including a fund-raising award, photo contest and related events, is scheduled to be held at JICA Global Plaza in Hiroo, Tokyo, on July 18. GaijinPot.com will sponsor the session as well.
